Purpose

This solution was developed to allow for the orderly administering of medication to patients receiving care by several helpers, e.g. persons receiving care at home. By using PillPlan each helper stays informed about which medication has already been administered by another helper at a given time on a given day.

Intended users

PillPlan is intended in the first place for private persons that have to care for an ill family member at home. Possibly the program could also be used by home nursing organizations and even by general practitioners.

Limits

PillPlan can accommodate any number of patients and drug names, a maximum of 6 drugs per patient and a maximum of 5 administering times at 13 different times of the day, up to 1 year ahead.

PillPlan ist not networkable.

Installation and de-installation

Unzip all files in archive PILL122.ZIP (1.7 MB) into any (new) folder. To remove PillPlan, simply delete all its files (and the folder). To run PillPlan execute PILLPLAN.EXE. In case you are already a happy owner of FileMaker Pro v4.0 or better, you can simply download the *.fp3 files (500 K) .

Technical minimum requirements
Windows 95 or better
Optimum screen resolution 800 x 600

Languages

PillPlan is fully bilingual (English and German). Be careful however with drug names - they are derived from the same list but may have different spelling, names and meaning in the two languages and/or the various countries. The list can be freely edited (see the 'Drug name' button on the patient data screen.

Switching between languages will not change data like drug names or dates but only affect field titles, button titles and date formats.

Drug names

The list of drugs to choose from can be edited freely and has an export and import facility. The number of drug names is unlimited. Drug names may be up to 29 characters long. The drug names included in the installation archive serve as examples only, as do the patients John Schmidt and Ursula Jones.

Basic data

On the patient data screen you need to fill in some basic data like the patient's name, gender, date of birth and the drug-related data.

You may also fill in up to 10 different "important persons", to be freely chosen from a list of 32 different "functions". These can be changed afterwards.

Printing

When the minimum required data for a patient is present, you may choose a range of future days (per week) and then preview and print the corresponding list for that patient.

As long as there are blue warning messages on the patient screen, previewing and printing the list is disabled.

The printable elements have been designed in such a way that they should fit well on landscape format.

The printed list contains - apart from some basic data - tick boxes to be filled in by the various helpers. The list shows only those medication 'events' that have been set on the patient screen.

The printed list should preferably remain at the patient's address.

Historic data

PillPlan does *not* keep historic data and is unsuitable as the *only* respository of patient data.

Security

The user is advised to make back-up copies at regular intervals. If PillPlan has crashed, it is strongly advised to reinstall the program.
