The overlapping curtain stripes shown here give good protection provided their thickness is sufficient (at least 5 mm / 0.2"). A certain weight is necessary to remain vertical even in windy conditions and to stand the heavy use. New stripes are very expensive so you'd better check with used material from a factory or a freezing plant. Aranka Ouwehand reported good results with a comparable curtain made from flag cloth with weights at the bottom end, and with closing the windows with flag cloth, too.
