Preventing portals in FileMaker Pro from blackening when clicked Read-only fields in portals as well as any areas in a portal not covered by a button show an ugly and - to the inexperienced user possibly disconcerting - blackening when clicked. Turning such areas straight away into buttons that do "nothing" does not help much, there will still be a short flickering. Here is my solution to avoid this problem. Create a hairline, about 2 pixels high. Make that line a button with something "useless" / "innocent", e.g. "Exit Script". Duplicate that button-line to the right or down and place the duplicates right next (or below) each other in order to avoid any free spaces, like |||||||| but without the spaces. Repeat this until you have built a block the size of the area to be protected. Any read-only fields in the portal must also be covered with such an "amorphous mass" of mini-buttons. Group the lines and make them invisible by changing them into transparent and by setting the line width to "none". Any clicking on such an area will result in a practically invisible flashing. OK, it's a somewhat tedious workaround to a cosmetic "bug" in FMP but is works just fine. This all applies to FMP under Windows; I have not tested it with a Mac but I'd be curious to hear about your experiences. Good luck! Back to the list of my FileMaker Pro trouvailles |
