Grabbing font properties from a field
in FileMaker Pro

FileMaker Pro (FMP) has no built-in feature that allows to export or automatically change font characteristics like italics, boldface or underline. The need for such a feature was dearly felt by Helmut Kalb who needed to convert thousands of words in italics in an FMP file into words in "quotes". He presented the problem in the comp.databases.filemaker newsgroup. After some discussion amongst various contributors there I found the solution in using the screen output generated by FMP's Instant Web Publishing feature under version 5 (version 4 does not show italics etc.) combined with Internet Explorer 5 (Netscape does not show italics etc.) and the freeware macro recording software AutoIt available at http://www.hiddensoft.com/AutoIt

Helmut Kalb built the macro and wrote the source code for AutoIt. Compile it with AUT2EXE.EXE (from AutoIt) into FM2WORD.EXE or download (50 K) it right away for your convenience.

Good luck!
